Indic Computing Handbook
The Indic-Computing Handbook is an introduction to the the technical aspects of Indian language processing. It is to be compiled by Indic community to keep a compilation of all the knowledgebase that has been built up over the years.
FOSS projects have people moving in and out of project as their level of interest, motivation and contributions vary with time. At times when they have moved out of it due to different reasons, their experience & knowledge can get lost if not imparted to the successors. So documentation is an important aspect of development, and especially if the knowledge is limited to handful few, its helpful to have it put in writing so that it cannot get lost. In Indic Computing scenario this is of more critical importance since most of the knowledge is lying with in bits and peices and there being no single one stop reference for all kind of information about Indic computing aspects - language issues, fonts, keyboards, technical queries of how to use it etc.
The idea of Handbook project is to compile all this information in a well defined structure and reference format.\n\nIn short the key activities would be to call for contributions in following areas
- Compiling data,
- collecting from different sources,
- keeping references,
- bookmarks,
- bibliography.
- Putting the compiled material in a presentable & printable form.
This would involve appropriately formatting the compiled data and articles.
Building tools to assist this process eg. generating screenshots, text rendering outputs, glyph representation.\n\n\nThe presentation will outline the structure, format and data compilation process and request for a call for participation.
The target audience is those who wish to participate in compiling the handbook and would be keen to take an active role in it.
