Getting to freed.in

freed.in/2008 will be held at the School of Social Sciences auditorium, Jawaharlal Nehru University, from the 22nd to the 24th of Feb., 2008. For those of you who were part of freed.in/2007, while the event is still being held along with the School of Information Technology, JNU, the physical focus will be at a slightly different location, at the School of Social Sciences (SSS) auditorium that was used last year.

Inside JNU

From the North Gate (main entry), continue straight for about 1.5km till you hit a "T" junction. Take a left turn here, and a few hundred metres later, turn right at the next "T" junction, and take the immediate left to get to the parking lot of the SLS auditorium. Signs will be posted along the road. If you need to ask for directions, most people should be able to guide you to at least the nearby administration building (marked on the map).

JNU from airport

• Head towards the city, this road stretch is under construction so minor changes in traffic pattern to be expected.
• Straight at first round about outside airport.
• Straight and second round about.
• Straight at first traffic light, road merging from right.
• Right at next traffic light (Turn below flyover under construction)
• Straight for next five traffic lights.
• Right at traffic light (Munirka Bus depot on right after turn)
• Left at next traffic light.
• Right at next traffic light, towards JNU main gate.

Alternatively, take a pre-paid taxi from the airport to JNU.

JNU from New Delhi Railway station

Best option is to take a pre-paid auto or taxi from the station to JNU.

DTC bus route #615 comes directly from New Delhi Railway Station to inside JNU if you prefer to take a bus; get off at the administration building stop.

JNU from Sarai Kale Khan Interstate bus terminus

• Turn right on ring road outside bus depot.
• Continue on ring road and cross three over-pass bridges.
• Continue on ring road through under-pass
• Continue on ring road for four over-pass bridges.
• Take left turn at next traffic light with Hyatt Hotel on left.
• Continue straight at next traffic light.
• Take right at next traffic light "T" junction.
• Take left at next traffic light. (Munirka Bus depot on right after turn)
• Left at next traffic light.
• Right at next traffic light, towards JNU main gate.

Modes of transport:

Most preferred mode would be three-wheeler auto's found outside the main entrance or slightly further down after taking left turn outside the gate.

Public bus transport is available from the main exit or from Munirka bust depot. Bus #735 and #1530 connect to Delhi University from within the campus near Poorvanchal Hostel. Services are run by Delhi Transport Corporation. More about them at http://dtc.nic.in/dt3.htm

Taxi stand is locate near the bus depot. You can get idea about fares from http://delhigovt.nic.in/autofares/Transport_taxi.asp Tee distance New Delhi Railway station to JNU is approximately 15 kilometers and fare would be approximately Rs150 (Look for Vasant Vihar on above site) Distance from airport is about 10 kilometers and approximate fare Rs120

Delhi also has radio taxi service available. Dial 1929 (no prefix) from within Delhi or 91-11-29232425 from elsewhere. More about this service at http://www.megacabs.com/radio-taxi.html. Another company can be reached at 91-11-43434343. Radio taxis charge Rs. 15/km, but are safe, reliable, and comfortable.

• Nearest bus terminus: Munirka Bus Depot, is situated barely a kilometer from the main gate. Turn left at JNU exit and then right at the traffic signal. Many bus routes start from this place.
