Introduction:

NIXI has approached ILUGDelhi to help them enable/setup Indic Language Domain Names.

What are the requirements for enabling Indic Language Domain Name?

  • Client support - how various types of clients (Web Browsers, FTP Clients etc.) have/will support i18n domains?
  • Resolver Libraries - How various resolvers are/will support the name resolution?
  • Look up and review the DNS RFC for i18n support
  • Look up and review the Whois RFC for i18n support
  • Look at the W3C? relevant documents
  • Look at the punicode implementation
  • Review other country specific implementation (e.g. China)
  • Prepare a position paper
  • If required/warranted create new RFC(s)
  • Security - Phising issues?
  • Invite participation from interested parties - Domain Registrars, DNS Service Providers, ISPs, Developers, Others
