Institute of Social Studies Trust is collaborating with Sarai to hold a workshop for under-privileged youth at their Saathi Computer Training Center in Kalyanpuri (East Delhi). They want to expose their trainees to Open Source to avoid licensing costs and to teach them something new. The aim of the workshop is to introduce students to the philosophy behind Free/Open Source Software (FOSS), and to give a training in basics of open source tools.

10:30 - FOSS Philosophy: its advantages over proprietary tools
10:45 - Introduction to Linux, specifically Ubuntu
11:00 - Linux installation
Setting up a primary partition
Installing Linux in dual-boot mode and also an introduction of the same using Wubi
Getting the Indian language packs
Session on various applications and their equivalents on Windows
12:30 - A small introduction on the applications on Linux (Ubuntu)
12:40 - Lunch break
13:30 - Navigating around the desktop
General usage, folder views, operations on them, invoking applications, creating and deleting files etc.
